Christian Spiritualities

Home Directory Calendar Minutes

A number of Christian spirituality networks gather annually at a round table.  Over 25 existing networks and groups in the Britain and Ireland have been included in the discussions, which started in 1995.  Our vision statement is:

Linking networks - Christian and others - which develop and promote contemporary expressions of spirituality, and sharing in that development and promotion.

This website has the following pages:

Members AtoZ lists brief details of member networks and links to their own websites;

Calendar [under construction] sets out a selection of forthcoming events held by member organisations ;

Papers page contains minutes of round table meetings and planning sessions.

To receive periodical emails with information about forthcoming events, please join the Meta-Net Yahoo! information list:

An earlier version of the vision statement was formulated at the round table meeting on 18 November 2000, at which Ruth Harvey, then Director of the Living Spirituality Network of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, gave a presentation on "A Network of Networks", which inspired the name of this website's former location at www.meta-net.info

A Network of Networks

There are many networks within Britain and Ireland that broadly share the following aims:

An openness to new expressions of church;

A desire to explore the meaning of spirituality;

An awareness of the connections between prayer, reflection, meditation, retreat, and action for change, justice and peace in the world: an integrated spirituality;

A commitment to the pursuit of unity in diversity: to the ecumenical movement in its broadest form, embracing the whole earth.

These networks and groups may also share some of the following qualities:

Led by a small, enthusiastic staff team;

Working with volunteers to carry out their aims;

Supporting a diverse and disparate network of members/supporters;

Always looking for more funding;

Keen to develop good relations with mainstream religious traditions, (generally but not exclusively Christian).

While these networks may share certain aims and qualities, they are also distinctive, each pursuing a particular interest or cluster of interests (e.g. liturgy, retreats, justice and peace, theology…).

Contact

This website represents a network of networks which has no existence in the real world except through an annual gathering of representatives from constituent groups.  For specific enquiries, please contact a member group - see Members AtoZ.  For website enquiries, or if your group would like to attend the annual meeting, please contact Daren Kemp.
